Who am I?

My name is Paul, I’m 52 years old, live in the UK and I retired completely from work last year. When I say from work, I mean from my 9 to 5 job. My work now consists of pressing a few buttons on my computer and waiting for sales to arrive in my email inbox. Sure I have to package and dispatch the goods, but I love doing it. Anyway, I could always get someone else to do it for me if I ever got fed up.

My ‘old job’ was a telephone engineer for a very large UK company, and my days were mostly spent working outside. Yes I got wet, extremely cold, sometimes covered in mud, but it was quite enjoyable, and I wasn’t stuck in a boring office job. The pay was certainly not great and was well below the so called national average wage.

For years I’d always wanted to be in business for myself, but just couldn’t find anything suitable.

To buy or start up a conventional business would cost many thousands of pounds, and what if it failed? I’d seen so many other local businesses fail after just a year or 2, and to be honest, I couldn’t afford the start up costs, and basically hadn’t got much idea of what I wanted to do, or how to do it.

Running my own business was always in the back of my mind, but I just got on with my job.

Armed with my new found knowledge and excitement I got started in my own small business back in 2005 while still working my day job, using the same techniques and methods I’d learned from him. I won’t tell you it was an easy ride. That would be lying. I had problem after problem, but it’s like he explained: If you are facing problems, then at least you are moving forwards.
